PMU Foal Rescue Program

My experience at Peaceful Acres started out only recently. I had been reading about PMU foals and the rescue for a few months and it was something I really wanted to get involved with. Considering that I am away at college right now has made that difficult, but when I heard about Peaceful Acres on my winter break, I finally found what I was looking for. I called up Nanci and set up an appointment to stop by the barn and check it out. When I walked in, I knew it was going to be an experience I would not forget because it gave off such a friendly atmosphere. Peaceful Acres isn't a barn all about showing and winning, but instead about building a trusting relationship with animals that is like no other. While I was volunteering, I was able to work with the foals and help out with the daily chores. During that time, I had fallen in love with one of the foals and am currently looking into adopting him. Without Peaceful Acres and Nanci, I would not have been able to have this wonderful opportunity to work with these amazing animals, which I am so grateful for.

Peaceful Acres is proud to announce our PMU Foal Fostering Program in 2006 was a huge success!. The foals were rescued by E.A.R.S (Equine Angels Rescue Sanctuary). Six foals were placed in foster care at Peaceful Acres awaiting adoption. They were introduced to our A Day At The Farm Program, where Peaceful Acres Youth and Mentoring Matches (an adult and a child) have the opportunity to teach the foals trust; they taught them to halter, walk on a lead and began Natural Horsemanship training offered by Peaceful Acres staff. "Horse Power, Helping People Make Strides to Success, Empowerment and Self-reliance"!

We are thankful to Nutrena Feeds and Tractor Supply of Amsterdam for sponsoring the programs at Peaceful Acres! Poka and Winnie are now sponsored by Kathy and Sheila, volunteers at Peaceful Acres. These two woman have embrased these young - lovable horses and are now helping them though loving training to "rescue" people at Peaceful Acres. Thank you Kathy and Sheila for your care and commitment to our PMU rescues!

The foals pictured here in December 2006 have all been adopted to loving homes! Poka and Winnie are here at Peaceful Acres working with youth and families in our A Day At The Farm Program - they are loved by all who come to visit!

Great News...All six PMU rescued foals have been adopted. Our solid black colt - Pippin has found his new home with Catherine in Saratoga County, what a home it is! Thanks Catherine....you and Pippin are a great match - ENJOY!

Letting Go - Believing and Trust!

If this is life! I want to live forever!

In November these PMU rescued foals arrived at Peaceful Acres, they could not be touched. Now here it is a sunny day, March 29, 2006 and they have developed a trust in us here at Peaceful Acres that they let me lay-down with them and allow themselves to be vulnerable!

I share these photos with my friends who, like me support the rescue of PMU foals and know their true value is priceless to those of us who care for them and love them. This is my first year rescuing PMUs, it will not be an experience I will only have once in my lifetime. We will continue to save these precious little ones from slaughter and the Premarin Industry.

Thank you for your support and friendship!! Please share these photos with friends and supporters. We now have sponsors for Winnie and Pokka, thank you Kathy and Sheila, they will be staying here at the farm to become partners with Horse Power for Youth!

Peace ~ Nanci!
