Our Animal Friends

Meet Cookie and Lilly our standard sized donkeys. They are sweet, lovable and love attention from everyone who comes to the farm. Lilly and Cookie came from a farm in Western NY, they were part of a herd of donkeys that the owner thought would fit the needs of our youth programs at Peaceful Acres. They have adjusted well to their new home and now have a new run-in shelter and their own pasture. If you've never experienced the special qualities of 'long ears' please stop in and visit with Cookie and Lilly; you are sure to enjoy their company.
Daisy our Pygmy Goat with Abby our 'Barn Manager' cat. Daisy was adopted by Peaceful Acres in 2003 from a woman who could no longer keep her. Daisy is blind, so she has some special needs, but you would never know by the way she gets around the farm and follows Nanci while doing chores.
Meet Tonka  our oldest horse at the sanctuary. He is now in his mid 30's according to our vet. He no longer rides people on his back and spends most of his days enjoying the pasture and friendship of Sassy and Hope. Tonka is sound and healthy thanks to proper care, love and feed - Nutrena Senior is his choice!
Duchess our  boxer passed away in 2009 after many years of love and care. Dutchess was a fun loving boxer who made us laugh. She is missed by all, especially Nanci!
Kelly is Nanci's Paint mare, she is as pretty as they come, even though she doesn't have the color as most Paints. Kelly is partnered at Peaceful Acres for EAL, Coaching, and lessons and is a great demonstrator to show participants what can be done on the ground with horses. Kelly is very responsive, loves to please, play games with us and is very willing. She is very fond of her family, but most of all her buddy Cassie, Nanci's AQHA mare.
Cassie came to Nanci and her mom from Ocala, Florida. She was a show horse who attended open and NY State Quarter Horse Association shows for the first four years of her life with Nanci, showing in youth and adult Western and English classes.  Cassie is now the favorite of all the horses at Peaceful Acres for lessons and EAEL! She is sweet, willing, and sensible and loves the attention of all who visit.
Zippy is Cassie's half brother, their father is Irresistible Zip. Zippy has been a  huge assest to Peaceful Acres. Through the years, he has touched many lives. "There is not one person that walks in the barn that does not connect with Zippy," Nanci says. Zippy was a show horse for part of his life with a previous owner, he then became involved in a therapeutic riding program where it seems he 'found his nitch'.  He is one of the favorite horses at Peaceful Acres, offering kids an experience with a laid back partner who prefers to hang - out with the students than with his other equine buddies.
Twister is another Quarter Horse at Peaceful Acres. He has a 'rocking chair lope' and for all that experience riding him, he is their favorite. Twister is graceful and strong, affectionate and willing. Twister is one of those horses who is happiest when he has a 'job' to do. His job at Peaceful Acres is to be the riding companion to a few Peaceful Acres students and one of Nanci's favorites to ride.  He is a good communicator and will push you to become strong and get your voice. Once a connection is made with Twister, he is a lifelong friend. He will always keep you on yours toes, but his life lessons are amazing.

Valentino  is loved by many and offers people the ability to ride and also partner in EAEL classes. He is beautiful and has a great mind for working with youth and adults - mostly women.

Meet Starbuck, she is our donkey born on September 11, 2005. Her mother Cookie delivered her in the middle of the night, when I came to the barn in the morning, there was this beautiful little baby with long ears and the color of a coffee bean. She just had to be called 'Starbuck'! Starbuck is very friendly and loves attention.
Meet our PMU Rescued Foals. These foals were rescued from Premarin Ranches in Canada by Equine Angles Rescue Sanctuary www.foalrescue.com.

Peaceful Acres provided foster care and training for 6 foals until they were adopted into loving homes. These fillies and colts are part of a group of 6 month old foals that  came in from a Canada based PMU farm / feedlot.  Pokka and Whinnie have a forever home at Peaceful Acres as therapy horses. They are wonderful - smart - healthy and happy - both need sponsors!

Meet our Llamas - a local family donated their three llamas to Peaceful Acres. They add excitement and a unique quality to our horse farm, most people have seen or interacted with a horse, but llamas are more distinctive and sure to intrigue all who see them.
