It is the mission of the College of Mount Saint Vincent Institute for Immigrant Concerns to provide adult immigrants and refugees of all nationalities with English language skills, social services, employment preparation and placement, as well as referrals to further education and training so that they may gain social and economic independence. Since its inception, the Institute has provided services to more than 7,000 immigrants and refugees from 100 countries.

The Institute for Immigrant Concerns was launched in 1997. In 2005, the Institute came under the sponsorship of the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The Institute's Advisory Committee provides strategic support for program development.

The Institute is a citywide program, attracting students who reside in every borough and in almost every neighborhood in New York City. We are proud to have one of the most diverse populations of any community-based organization. Our classrooms frequently include students from 20 countries. In addition to acquiring English language skills, Institute students learn about each other’s nationalities, cultures and religions. The common ground of our students is their incredible motivation and the support they give to each other as they struggle to become self-sufficient.

Our Program Support
Institute programs are supported in part by the Office of Temporary Disability Assistance (OTDA); Scott Stringer, Manhattan Borough President, Borough Needs Program Award; the New York City Council Literacy Services; CAMBA; foundations; and private individuals.
