THE 15TH ANNUAL PRAYER VIGIL FOR THE EARTH BRINGS
A MELTING POT OF CULTURE, FAITH, AND ETHNICITY TO DC

The Prayer Vigil for the Earth, an annual event now in its 15th year, is a gathering of people from multiple backgrounds, traditions and faiths from around the world. The Vigil is a common ground where people experience different cultures and spiritual traditions, see first-hand what peace looks like, pray for world peace, harmony with nature, and the well being of all creation.

WHAT: The 15th Annual Prayer Vigil for the Earth

WHEN: Saturday, October 20th beginning at sunrise through
Sunday, October 21st ending at 1:00 p.m. 2007

WHERE: The Washington Monument Grounds (NW Quadrant), Washington, DC
At the intersection of Constitution Ave and 17th St. (accross 17th St from the World War II Memorial).

DETAILS: On the morning of October 19th, the ground will be blessed by spiritual elders from a variety of backgrounds, including Native Americans, Christians, Jews, African Americans, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Baha'is, Buddhists and Shinji Shumeikai representatives. A circle of tipis and canopies are erected and a fire is lit to symbolize the center of the sacred circle, or Peace Village. This fire burns throughout the Vigil  and all are welcome. Listen to music and chants, poetry and story telling from indigenous cultures, participating in prayer and dance, or simply look on.
