Funding for Prayer Vigil
The Prayer Vigil for the Earth is funded entirely by private donations and the sponsorship of goods and services from interested organizations. We are a 501c# organization (#94-3133148). All donations are tax deductible. The hurricanes of 2003 and 2004 and the logistical challenges we are facing in 2006 have tapped our bank account quite heavily, so in 2006 we are focusing more on fund raising than we ever have before.

The
Prayer Vigil respectfully asks you to help plant the seeds of
healing, unite diverse interfaith communities, honor the Wisdom Keepers
of many traditions and expose our youth to their positive values, inspire
similar gatherings throughout the world, and lay a strong spiritual foundation
for present and future generations.
Some people or organizations choose Sponsorship to do this. Sponsors
are needed for the following parts of the Prayer Vigil:
- Bring an elder or helper to Washington (airfare and hotel for 3 days)
- $ 2,000 per person - Budget for 15 people - $30,000
- Teepee and other sturctures for the circle (transportation, rental and building - $4,000
- Sound system - $1,000
- Meals on the mall for elders and volunteers - $2,500
- Transportation within DC (Vans) -- $2,000.00
TOTAL BUDGET $40,000
Total Expenditure for previous Prayer Vigils has been from $17,500 - $40,000. We seek the lowest possible airfares and hotel charges and office, communication and other administrative costs are donated or very low. With reduced costs and a higher funding level, more Spiritual Leaders and Elders from varied traditions can be invited to participate.
Sponsors are welcome to fund a particular Spiritual Leader, sponsor a tipi, meals or any portion of the Prayer Vigil. Sponsors are invited to come to the Mall for the event. We are seeking several mini grants of $500 to $5000 in addition to numerous smaller individual contributions as befits the broad participation in this event.
